Painting the Capital is a painter and decorator in Edinburgh for homes that deserve a careful finish. We handle interior painting and decorating, exterior painting, wallpapering and kitchen unit spraying, with the preparation done properly before any colour goes on.

  • Floors and furniture covered from start to finish
  • Quality trade paints from Johnstone’s Trade, Dulux, Farrow & Ball and more
  • Labelled touch-up paint left for every colour

Edinburgh Decorators Who Prepare Properly

A good paint job starts long before the first coat. As a painter and decorator in Edinburgh, we see every kind of surface: lime plaster and deep cornicing in Georgian flats, long tenement stairwells, modern plasterboard, timber sash windows and weathered render. Each needs the right preparation and the right product, and that is where we put our care.

Before we open a tin, furniture, floors and carpets are covered and stay covered. Water marks, smoke stains and pen marks are sealed with a Zinsser stain-blocking primer so they cannot bleed through. Outside, mildew is treated, loose caulking is replaced and loose nails are re-set before anything is painted.

Then the finish goes on in quality trade paint, neatly and without paint on your glass, floors or fittings. When we leave, the work area is clean, waste and solvents go for proper disposal, and you get labelled touch-up paint for every colour we used.

Kitchen Unit Spraying in Edinburgh

Cabinets are the first thing you notice in a kitchen. When the layout still works for you and the units are sound but look tired, a respray can give the whole room a new look without ripping anything out.

The kitchen pictured had honey oak units that no longer suited the room. Sprayed in a deep charcoal, with the upper cupboards kept light, it looks like a new kitchen without a single unit being replaced. A typical respray like this is turned round in about a week, and cracked vinyl doors can be repaired before they are sprayed.

  • Keep the layout you already like
  • A new colour for the whole room
  • About a week from start to finish

Painter and Decorator FAQs

Straight answers to the questions people ask before booking a decorator in Edinburgh. If yours is not here, call us on 07770 111 222.

How do you protect my furniture and floors while you paint?

Furniture, floors and carpets are covered with dust sheets or polythene before we start and stay covered until the job is finished. We also make sure no paint is left on windows, carpets, floors or anything else that was not being painted.

Which paints do you use?

We use quality trade paints, including Johnstone’s Trade, Dulux, Farrow & Ball, Tikkurila and Crown. Better materials give a better finish and last longer, so we never swap in cheaper paint to cut costs.

Can you paint over water marks and smoke stains?

Yes. Stains left by water, smoke or pens would bleed through new paint, so we seal them first with a Zinsser primer or sealer and then paint over them.

How long does kitchen unit spraying take?

A typical kitchen respray is turned round in about a week. We can also repair cracked vinyl kitchen doors before they are sprayed.

How do you prepare the outside of a house before painting it?

Plants and the area around the property are covered first. Mildew is treated and killed, loose caulking is replaced and loose nails are re-set and painted, so the new coating has a sound surface to grip.

Will you work on my job every day until it is finished?

Yes. Once a job starts we work on it on consecutive days, finish by the date we agree and clear up after ourselves.

Do you leave any paint for touch-ups?

Yes. We leave touch-up paint for each colour used, in containers labelled with the room or surface it belongs to.
